HEALTH IS WEALTH: TREASURED LOVE-HATE AFFAIRS
Disclaimer: Nothing in this article constitutes medical advice.
"The first wealth is health" (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
A healthy life creates happiness and the first wealth we all possess, so good health is our treasure. The definition of good health is a feeling of mental, physical and social well-being and not just the absence of disease.
“The only really important thing, at the end of the day, is your health. If you haven't got that, then all the money in the world isn't going to bring you happiness” (John Caudwell)
Many have love-hate affairs and commitment issues with health methods and techniques, but positive results become treasure. We are not medical doctors and cannot address surgery, tablets, anti-depressants and other pathology. However, as researchers and being a doctor of entrepreneurship, management, business, books etc health is every individual’s concern. We all have the capacity to study formal and informal methods of reducing or eliminating stress, anxiety, diseases and other wellbeing issues. Indeed, it is challenging exercising, or sticking with a healthy nutrition, way of life or habits. However, it is very important to silence the noise and focus on what matters. Without going to medical school, you can still learn what is best for your own body and health. A body should be in a state of alkalinity rather than acidity. A certain level of alkalinity keeps illness at bay while much acidity distorts the balance and invites illness. Therefore, investigate how to keep the body in a more alkaline state, knowing that our habits, thoughts, and nutrition are a huge part of the equation. Accordingly, without any formal endorsements these techniques below address health, stress, anxiety stress, pain and others, to create the better health that enables wealth.
"Diseases of the soul are more dangerous and more numerous than those of the body" (Marcus Tullius Cicero)
“Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world” (Joel A. Barker)
The Wim Hof “Iceman” Method teaches a method to elevate our ability to heal. Hof says his method uses nature to tackle depression, anxiety, fear and chronic pain. This approach allows healing from the inside through tapping into the body and mind to become happier, stronger and healthier. First, sit in a comfortable, meditative posture able to expand your lungs freely without restrictions. You could start in the morning after waking up or before having a meal.
Secondly, breathe deeply slowly 30 times, hold, release and repeat and watch how this changes the body chemistry. Make deep breathes avoid shallow breathing. This allows the body chemistry and tissues to change and become more oxidised, oxy-energised and alkaline, and one feels the brain-body connection making the brain, more oxidised and alkaline. Apparently, Wim Hof is working with Stanford to get rid of PTSD, fear, trauma and depression. He swears by his methods that through this breathing technique we can reduce the Co2 in the body and increase O2 (Oxygen) to release the right hormones, dopamine, serotonin, adrenaline, that through the mind we control these hormones. It is said when this level is achieved consciousness and perception are heightened, we smell better, experience deeper and live life in beautiful colours.
This method is similar for most meditations whether it is Chinese or Kemetic meditation. First, sit straight, close your eyes and relax all muscles. Secondly, mentally shut off/out all activities of the mind and allow your metabolism to generate heat or feel the vibrations as you breathe continually. Apparently, at this mindful stage, one is able to go deep into the body and control their nervous and immune system.
"Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity" (John F. Kennedy)
It is very important to keep the mind and body relaxed and active so engage in physical exercise, everyone has one form of exercise that is best for their current lifestyle, discover yours. It could be walking, running, Pilates, football, meditation, extensive reading (yes!) etc.
“A nail is driven out by another nail. Habit is overcome by habit” (Desiderius Erasmus)
Furthermore, everyone has a preference for the exercise of table hockey i.e. food and eating. Research states one cause of disease asides mindless stress is acidic food and nutrition. For instance, just because it is free or cheap doesn’t mean you should eat it. A person who habitually eats unhealthy when asked to seek out alternative to cut out certain inflammation causing foods said “ah! so what is left to eat?” The best way to replace a negative habit is to replace it with a positive habit. Remember this analogy, the body is like a car when serviced with happier, top class fuel, oils, and first-class materials it will go the extra mile. Alternatively, when serviced with stress, low grade fuels, oils, bad materials, it will still work but keep breaking down into one form of illness or another until the engine completely knocks. Hence, we all need better health and exercise habits for long-term well-being and quality of life. Good healthy food contributes toward producing a body machinery that guarantees good work.
"The wise man should consider that health is the greatest of human blessings. Let food be your medicine"(Hippocrates)
The healthy self translates into “Heal” “Thy” “Self” because many may experience health issues according to their life choices. Therefore, decide the best life choices to live a healthier life. Ultimately to live a wealthy life, you need prosperity in key areas health (mental and physical), career, finance, love and nutrition. The human being is a body of cells that constantly multiply, specialise and die off, cancer represents cells that lack enough oxygen and grow without dying off. While modern medicine believes in chemo and others, nutritionists believe that disease and cancer overgrowth can be reversed through diet. Oxygen may promote alkalinity and good health. Nature reduces stress, improves PH levels, brings about wellbeing, a great mind and body. Dr Sebi's Cell Food and British clean-eating guru Natasha Corrett, discovered that eating a plant-based diet free from processed foods can help to cure terminal diseases in the body" Corrett adds this work is not recognised by the medical industry.
“In health there is no disease. You do not find cancer in healthy tissues”
Therefore, life induces stress-levels which can be lessened through relevant exercise, nutrition, and mindfulness. Everyone should remain open-minded to learn about conventional and unconventional medicines. If any first diagnosis is received know that it is your fundamental human right to fully participate and make decision related to your own healthcare. You have the right to seek alternatives. Remain in control of your health because this is the ultimate wealth that adds to your career, well-being and quality of life. ‘Heal’thy Self from Dis-Ease’ the first rule of good health is that prevention is better than cure, when possible. Secondly, discover your purpose and pursue that either as a career or part-time for a meaningful life. Remember that when this is lacking some experiences become costly. Prevention includes commitment to a healthy self, living a disciplined life, mindfulness, good nutrition, finances, love, a passionate career for a harmonious life.
“Happiness is not out there; it is within you. Happiness is a choice”
The health is wealth commitment is challenging but we can all work smarter at imbibing positive nutrition, exercise, well-being and mindful methods. It is important to realise it is never too late, or at any age, to become more mindful, to reduce the noise and become more positive, to become more intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial, to enhance or change career, secure more assets than liabilities, engage in physical exercise, eat more fruits, eat more green vegetables, reduce or eliminate meat, sleep, rest, make healthier diet choices, invest in the self. Note that, everyone is different and we cannot provide medical advice so research and discover what works best for you. Activate that which will improve your total wellbeing and quality of life. All the best!
"We have thousands of opportunities every day to be grateful: for having good weather, to have slept well last night, to be able to get up, to be healthy, to have enough to eat. ... There's opportunity upon opportunity to be grateful; that's what life is" (David Steindl-Rast)
