A people will
never look forward to prosperity who never look backward to their ancestors
(Edmund Burke)
APPRECIATE YOUR
PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE
Our ancestors
exist and must be honoured (Ifa 13th Commandment)
It is imperative
to show appreciation to what you believe in, to God, to your Ancestors. The fact that you are reading, studying, receiving this wisdom today and
reached this stage in your life is a testament to their sacrifices. Appreciate
your God and Ancestors who paved your way. Embrace your past, present and
future to soar.
INSPIRATIONAL
WISDOM, MAXIMS & LEGACIES
How
important it is for us to recognise and celebrate our heroes and she-roes! (Maya
Angelou)
Winston Churchill said, ”It
is good for an educated man to read books of quotations”. The books we authored,
such as, “Wealth Empire State Of Mind: Entrepreneurship Is A Viable Career
Choice” incorporate narratives, affirmations and wisdom quotes from great entrepreneurial or
intrapreneurial careers. Therefore, for now, reflect on the following
inspirational quotes presented in no particular order as an enlightenment tool.
Habitually, reflect on inspirational quotes daily to motivate or assist a more
positive or entrepreneurial mind-set. Find stimulating quotes in tune with your
vision, and what you stand for. Allow these become part of your mantra. Include
in your treasure chest of lessons positive sayings from your ancestors, parents,
background, and sector. Some of these maxims below are covered throughout the
WESM Book Series 1-7.
1. President Muhammadu Buhari- We as Nigerians must remind
ourselves that we are heirs to great civilisations: Shehu Othman Dan fodio’s
caliphate, the Kanem Borno Empire, the Oyo Empire, the Benin Empire and King
Jaja’s formidable domain. The blood of those great ancestor’s flow in our veins.
What is now required is to build on these legacies, to modernize and uplift
Nigeria.
2. Dr Beem Beeka- Entrepreneurship is a mind-set,
viable career and employment choice.
3. Peter Drucker- Entrepreneurship is based on the
same principles, whether the entrepreneur is an existing large institution or
an individual starting his or her venture singlehanded.
4. Aliko Dangote- I built a conglomerate and emerged
the richest black man in the world in 2008 but it didn’t happen overnight. It
took me 30 years to get to where I am today. Youths of today aspire to be like
me but they want to achieve it overnight. It’s not going to work. To build a
successful business, you must start small and dream big. In the journey of
entrepreneurship, tenacity of purpose is supreme.
5.
Ron Conway- Any time is a good time to start a
company.
6. Nolan Bushnell- The critical ingredient is getting
off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have
ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not
tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a
dreamer.
7. Maya
Angelou- You can only become truly accomplished at something you love.
Don’t make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then
do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off you.
8. Nelson
Mandela- I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the
triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who
conquers that fear.
9.
Drew
Houston- Don’t worry about failure; you only have to be right once.
10. Thomas Edison- Opportunity
is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
11. Jeff Bezos- I knew that if I failed
I wouldn’t regret that, but I knew the one thing I might regret is not
trying
12. Rosa Parks- I have learned over the
years that when one's mind is made up, this diminishes fear.
13. Mustafa Shehu- No one on earth
can tell you what you like and can do best, but yourself.
14. Winston Churchill- Never give
in–never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never
give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force;
never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.
15. Oprah Winfrey- Every time you state
what you want or believe, you’re the first to hear it. It’s a message to both
you and others about what you think is possible. Don’t put a ceiling on
yourself.
16. Eric Ries - As an
entrepreneur, I knew that if my company failed, I could always try again. So I
often felt that the only real risk of true financial ruin came from the
possibility of a serious illness that either exceeded my insurance plans
lifetime limits, or was not covered due to recession.
17. Muhammad Ali- He who is not
courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.
18. Elliot Weissbluth- Don’t go
into debt unless it’s to make a long-term investment that will pay off in the
future, like a home that would increase in time or an education that increases
your earning power.
19. Anita Roddick- Nobody talks about
entrepreneurship as a survival, but that’s exactly what it is and what nurtures
creative thinking. Running that first shop taught me business is not financial
science; it’s about trading: buying and selling.
20. Michelle Zatlyn- People don’t take
opportunities because the timing is bad, the financial side unsecure. Too many
people are overanalysing. Sometimes you just have to go for it.
21. Strive Masiyiwa- Whether you’re a
farmer, builder or engineer, the opportunities are equal: Just add a little innovation.
22. Steve Jobs- Your work is going
to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to
do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love
what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As
with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any
great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So
keep looking. Don’t settle.
23. Maya Penn- Start an idea
journal where you can write down all of your ideas for your business. Whether
it’s a small thought that crosses your mind or the next big idea, it’s
important to have it written down. Also, you have to believe in yourself and
what you’re doing. Don’t get discouraged if things are going slower than you
expected. And don’t give up too quickly.
24. James Allen- For true success ask
yourself these four questions; Why? Why not? Why not me? Why not now?
25. Dr Beem Beeka & Doo Beeka-
Entrepreneurship is the business aspect of everyone’s career. Entrepreneurs
actively create, identify and develop business opportunities. Therefore,
entrepreneurship is a multicultural phenomenon because what is considered
entrepreneurial in one part of the world is similarly entrepreneurial in every
part of the world.
