In the Acres of Diamond narrative, an impatient farmer in a bid to chase riches sells his farm and travels the world searching for diamonds. Unfortunately, in foreign lands, the farmer experiences poverty, wretchedness and eventual death; tragic for a poor soul trying to get rich quick through external validation. The second farmer who had bought the farm eventually becomes extremely rich after discovering some dirt which turns out upon expert investigation to be diamonds on this same farm. Depending on the teller, this story is often associated with the origins of the magnificent Golconda diamond mines in India, Asia, other times the narrative tells the story of the richest Diamond mine in Africa. Regardless of its roots, the moral of this story is to diligently concentrate on developing yourself right where you are currently located. Start micro, start small, proceed with what you have/know. Realise that opportunity is often overlooked and considered hard work or hidden in the dirt just as food grows out of soil considered dirt.
“To find yourself, think for yourself” (Socrates)
Hence, opportunity exists in every country and in whatever career or business sector you are currently engaged in or want to enter. Hence, stop running from pillar to post not sticking with a type of business or career long enough to become a specialist and reap the rewards. Instead, become an expert in whatever you are currently focused on, realise that the grass is not always greener on the other side. Refrain from insulting your country 24/7 this is counterproductive and puts a dent on your character or capacity. Migration favours some and not others. However, there are abundant opportunities wherever you are located. Find or create opportunity, discover and appreciate your own roots, career or business. Your indomitable diamond willpower is your gold mind or goldmine. With a heart of titanium, an unbreakable diamond determination, and laser sharp focus, your mind of gold could achieve all your desires.
