Which Door Will You Walk Into?...
“You
can have everything in life that you want if you give enough other people what
they want” (Zig Ziglar)
The
three ways to earn a living are through selling your time, talent or ideas. How
many things did you buy over the last week or month? The economic system and
life currently revolves around buying (demand) and selling (supply).
Entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs are sellers who are always selling their
talent, ideas, products or services. You too can sell the below to earn.
1. CAREER DOOR 1: Sell Your Time: In selling time, you will exchange your time for
money in the form of being an employee earning a wage, an intrapreneurial
employee earning a good salary, a freelancer or an entrepreneurial consultant
making great revenue from clients/contracts. Kim Garst said “If you don’t value
your time, neither will others. Stop giving away your time and talents. Value
what you know and start charging for it”. Sheryl Sandberg worth an estimated
$1.57 billion is an example of an intrapreneur who did not start Facebook but
as the Chief Operating Officer works hard to actualise company vision, mission
and core values. She operates in door 1 and 3.
2. CAREER DOOR 2: Sell Your Talent or Hobbies: In selling talent, you will exchange your unique
creative talents strengths, and entrepreneurial hobbies for earnings. Let's say
as an expert, professional, consultant, freelancer or influencer in any field of work, including as an artist,
athlete, scientist, gamers, graphic designer, and fashion designer etc.
Examples include Fela Kuti, Kanu Nwankwo, Jackie Chan, Genevieve Nnaji, Lebron James, Stephen Curry, Jay-Z and Beyoncé,
Tiwa Savage, Shakira, Issey Rae, John Boyega, Daniel Radcliffe, Ed Sheeran,
Lewis Hamilton, Paul Pogba, Messi, Ronaldo, Venus and Serena Williams are few
examples. Many of these operate in door 1, 2 and 3.
3. CAREER DOOR 3: Sell Your Ideas, Inventions or
Innovations: A brainchild master (male or female) is skilful in selling ideas. You as an opportunity creator, entrepreneurial
inventor or intrapreneurial innovator will imagine and create products, services or processes
that will sell for generations and likely outlive you. Steve Jobs co-founder of
Apple Inc a most valuable company is an example. But
guess what? many micro, small, medium and large entrepreneurs (millionaire or billionaire) who create and
sell their own ideas, products, goods, and services fall within this range. Hence, if
you are selling ideas online (Alibaba, Amazon, Konga, Jumia, Fiverr, Blog etc), at
home, in a market stall, retail, shop, office or across borders and nations, you contribute to changing
the world. Importantly through selling ideas, inventions, innovations and intellectual
capital, you make the world a positively colourful place!.
“If I have 300 ideas in a year and just
one turns out to work I am satisfied” (Alfred
Nobel)
